Navy Arrests 24 Foreigners, 43 Nigerians for Illegal Oil Bunkering, Piracy

No fewer than 67 suspects, including foreigners, have been arrested over allegations of oil bunkering and acts of terrorism on the nation’s territorial waters.

The arrest was made by operatives of the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS Beecroft, Apapa, Lagos.

Among the suspects were four Pakistanis and 20 Benin Republic nationals.

Others include Nigerian collaborators said to be from Ondo State.

The Benin Republic nationals, according to the Commander, NNS Beecroft, Commodore Mauris Eno, represented by the Executive Officer, NNS Beecroft, Captain Tajudeen Oshoba, specialised in buying illegally refined petroleum products from the Nigerian suspects.

The Navy recovered both local and foreign currencies from the suspects, including
wooden fishing boats and petroleum products.

However, sources said the suspects denied the allegation, maintaining that they were sea chandliers.
